House steaming of stories, East Congo

A spooky feeling having lunch in this house, a symbol of so much. Once a fantastic house of a rich Belgian plantation owner during colonial days, situated on a little hill overlooking the fertile valley land, then during the war the stronghold of the rebels who used the house as base while terrorizing the local population, raping, burning, killing. Now the home of an association for war victims, mostly of them widows, sexually abused, or people living with HIV/AIDS, who try to make a living from the land after the recent return home following years in displacement.
